Ive always found it funny that yugioh is considered for kids and magic is considered for adults but magic is so much easier to understand and play.

Issue is (atleast for me) when you're a new player or casual player, you're gonna get thrashed at every turn due to every one else having OP decks or decks that make it so you cant make a single move

The biggest issue is that the game has become so complicated, rule cluttered, archetype heavy, and fast paced thats its horribly unfriendly to newcomers.

While i understand this video is 3 months old, going down the rabbit hole of going back into TCGs in general have unearthed a lot of problems in nearly all games. Im planning on doing a big unboxing/review stream as im bulk buying a bunch of cards of various games and yak on for it, but i couldnt figure out the massive price/print problems with games like Yu gi oh and this vid was a great explanation of it. Seems as usual just Konami being Konami. wont say no to heavily discounted box sets though!

Rarity collection 1 was the only yugioh product I've ever bought, and I didn't even open the box. Just hoping that it will be enough of a meme that it will appreciate over the next decade

Attempted new player here, one of the biggest things that put me off the game were the players, some not all and again region based, both local shops of mine just had very sweaty competitive players who didn't wanna take a break from player at lightning speed and when i tried to slow down and read the cards i have to understand them they wouuld visibly get pissed (this was a casual non tourny game) Again keep in mind this is just my case never really tried the game again

As someone who would love to get into it but can't: it's too much. Too much of a time sink, too much of a money sink, and too much learning just to play a game with any amount of enjoyment. Plus, there is always the ever looming threat that you can spend alot of money on cards that in just a few months time will be outclassed or replaced in the meta.

I think the problem for me getting into Yugioh is that it is so different now than the easy to play card game I remember as a child

What people fail to realize is simple. It's not Konami JP's fault. The OCG is doing fine and it's cheap. This is purely a TCG problem and the TCG is not ran by Konami JP. Aim your grievances at the correct entity if you want change.

Konami isn’t that bad when it comes to selling their product. At least the product has an msrp and you get some good pulls. After playing Magic the Gathering for a few months, I can honestly say I will never buy sealed product from Hasbro. I will strictly buy singles. I can’t say the same about Yugioh, I would happily buy their sealed product.

just came back to the game after 3 or 4 years break, found none of my old archetypes viable except maybe salamangreat, found new support for blackwings and sky strikers, only those two hooked me back, who knows how much I'm gonna stay, but when I see one of your solutions is embracing old formats, this is the way and probably the only way, the game is fast, and stopping to read each card is frustrating, I'm all in simplifying the game, back in the day i also quit, during the pendulum era, same problem, to much reading, new gimmicky ways of playing, and the power creep, so yeah, embracing old formats is the best idea, and not a half ahh way, I mean, fully embracing it, one thing for sure, i took so many breaks from this game, each time I come back I check on the blackwings, and other fan favourite archetypes, lightsworm, the abyss level 3s forget their name, and others, simple cards with simple mechanics, shared mechanics, etc, like you'll know the theme of the strategy, and go with it... also seen an old favourite came back, fire kings 😍 i started following your channel after i watched your 2024 deck selection video, with the snake eye as tier 0, I came back then left rapidly during the virtual world dominance, so maybe my estimation of 3 to 4 years break was off.

I can tell you exactly why Yugioh can not get new players, especially digitally. it is because when you click on CASUAL MATCH you end up with some piece of crap who pulls a 10 card combo and has 3 monsters over 3k on the first turn when you went in with a constructed deck wanting to learn how to play the game. To all of the people that do this to new players....rot in flames.

I started playing back in 2017 when my house burned down. I lost everything and had nothing to occupy my time with. So my boyfriend brought out his childhood Yugioh cards and I was instantly hooked. We went to go buy a bunch of new booster packs and discovered Pendulums, XYZ, and Syncro’s. We had a lot to learn about. I stopped playing until this month and so much has changed. It does not feel fun. Every card has an essay of effects and chain after chain. It’s tiring. We agreed to stick to the 2017 rules.

The literal reason I got into Yu-Gi-Oh was because magic the gathering is online tabletop is ass. Y'all that use Master duel do not know how good you have it.

I played when the game was first released. My kids wanted to try, so we got fire kings and crystal beast structure decks. Even after watching videos about the decks, I think they are still hard to play for new players. A lot of deck searching and chaining is the meta but it is not new-player friendly.

My reasoning is rather simple. GX felt like it was adding to already pre-established concepts that didn't get much use. It made the game more extreme and the power scaling was appreciated. It scaled what was possible within the game without outright making the pre-existing cards unplayable. After GX they kept adding new card mechanics that completely changed the game. Xyz, synchro, pendulums and links all require cards with focus on these new mechanics. This means that the game I love was essentially dead because my old cards and the expected game play was gone.

Wait, are cards that go +2 with additional upside now standard in Yu Gi Oh? Because that's not okay.

Stop blaming Konami, as a consumer you have the most important choice of all. To stop playing a children’s card game. And I think that’s the only real choice you have here

Playing Kyros. I found it hard to play against Y/B Luffy with ton of Sabo and Bonnie with Hawkins. Having O-Nami for Bashing and 6c Brook for trashing (instead of K'O). Make those match close to 100% win rate. Also the 2c Yellow Sanji, he works as a psudo-Rebecca draw.

Yugioh players should just agree to pretend they have the cards. These packs are practically being priced at their weight in silver

6:55 ngl Yugioh balance and powercreep are way more acceptable than whats happening in mtg. In basically all Eternal formats there is just a hidden rotation because the new modern horizons will always be way more powerful than the last one. So i dont think Magic is microbalanced and managed well in any way (even rotating formats).

i did quit yugioh and sell all my 5000+ cards when LINK cards release. the game lost its FUN , it became a speedrun on who gets the most summons. I did have fun with pendulum, its almost same as link in plan of multiple evocation, i absolutely fall in love with Krawler deck and pendulum magician. But my soul told me to quit due to link and all the yugioh directions. (sometimes i regret selling all , i did enjoy sitting and reading cards again and again, admiring prints and creating the worse possible connection, then fight with friends in one of the shops or with myself before bed.

I went to a card shop to buy a Pokémon and Magic starter deck. I told them if I could get a yugioh one and they told me they don’t recommend getting into it.

I think you could have mentioned Nami deck. It is probably the cheapest deck to build but it is very situational and also hard to learn but that alt win condition is awesome.

It got wack postmodern. Its not just complication, you just realize this game isnt worth it anymore.

Nobody wants to wait opponent play turn 1 unbreakable board for 30 minutes.

Getting into the game is extra hard when every learning tool is teaching you about normal summons and tribute summons, handing you a deck, and have your first games be full of players pulling 20 cards out of both their decks while you normal summon and put down 2 traps. Definitely not fun to get your start in Master Duel, settle on Monarchs because eating your opponent's cards is fun, and find out tribute summoning is, actually, fucking horrible.

Konami treats you like an addict, so you should treat them like drugs. Dive in at your own risk buddy.

duel links is one way to get into the game, has its own problems but is still playable for new players. bf and i play, f2p and its viable enough. single player or against friends is where the game does its best. pvp meta is all bs and who can do their bs the best fastest.

Why is everyone blaming the cost or prizes for yugioh dying. Its not that at all. You can't get kids into this game, it's far to confusing now. Kids like engagement therefore back and fourth Battles. They is what got us players originally into the game. Now the games over in 1 turn most battles. Snoozefest. The game died when they sped up the game by like 1000mph. Its ridiculous now. I'm tired of players and youtubers preaching for better prizes etc when that's not why the game is dying. Toxic players of modern yugioh denying this fact for years causing Konami to double down on it hence, syncro summons to then pendulum summons. It destroyed the game. The small minority of toxic players who disagree with this fact, are actively destroying their own game. Don't cry when the games completely dead. It's literally still going now because of how big the IP is. It won't hang onto that forever

Yugioh is a deckbuilding game that HATES you for deckbuilding. I played the digital game and even there I'm punished for not immediately reaching out for the meta cards.

I am an old head, I got into it with the anime as a kid (Played a lot with friends we had the kiba and yugi decks) I can't wrap my head around how complex stuff is now, it's just to much, I don't think there is a scene in my area but maybe if Konami simplified the game back down to some basics that might help too. I remember a time when monster had flavor text and effects where a bit more rare, which I prefer personally. I actually bought a box of the Spell Ruler set, opened 24 packs and built a fun 40 card deck. I'll likely never play it sadly, but it did give me a bit of that childhood nostalgia from when I was growing up. Never could of bought a whole box like that as a kid.

And also why would I as a new/returning player spend 1k to have a deck called snake eyes ash? Its not even the series defining archetypes. The hand traps and shit are mad random. Shits lowkey kinda ass. OTK's, no interaction games.

YuGiOh is a boring, repetitive, sad game, heavily focused on banning and changing decks constantly, I sold all my decks and quit this game years ago, and I’m happy with it, I went back to play Magic the Gathering with people close to me, life is much better and I’m happy 🔥
